There’s something magical about Lake Texoma in the early morning—the glassy surface of the water, the quiet hum of nature waking up, and the soft golden light spilling over the treetops. For me, there’s no better way to soak in that peace than by paddling out on my stand-up paddle board and unrolling into a few gentle yoga poses right on the lake.

Yes, paddle board yoga is officially my new favorite way to de-stress and reconnect.

Why Paddle Board Yoga?
Paddle board yoga combines all the best things: movement, mindfulness, and the outdoors. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned yogi or can barely touch your toes (I can barely touch my toes!!) doing yoga on a floating board makes it playful, challenging, and incredibly grounding.
Even simple poses like child’s pose or cat-cow feel different on the water. You have to engage your core and focus a little more deeply, which keeps you in the moment and off your phone (except for the occasional lake selfie, of course).
Where I Paddle on Lake Texoma
I usually launch from Mill Creek Marina or near the Grandpappy Point Marina boat ramp; places with calmer water and fewer waves from boats. If you go early, you’ll have the whole lake to yourself (minus a few friendly herons and the occasional curious fish). Sunset sessions are stunning too, especially if you enjoy floating meditation under a cotton-candy sky.
What Board I Use
I use an inflatable stand-up paddle board that I ordered right off Amazon. It’s lightweight, easy to roll up in the back of my car, and stable enough for yoga poses and fishing.
If you’re curious about trying it out, here’s the one I bought: https://amzn.to/3U2j6XN
It comes with a paddle, hand pump, backpack and a seat to make it a kayak; everything you need to hit the water within minutes.
Pro-Tip – I bought an electric pump so I can use my car to inflate the board 🙂
Tips for First-Timers
- Start on your knees if you’re new to paddling or yoga. Build confidence before standing.
- Stay close to shore until you’re comfortable balancing.
- Use an anchor (a small kayak anchor works great) to keep from drifting during your flow.
- Wear SPF and a hat—Texoma sun is no joke.
- Don’t worry about falling in—it’s half the fun!
Paddle Your Own Path
One of the best things about Lake Texoma is how it offers something for everyone. Whether you’re paddle boarding with friends, bringing your dog along for the ride, or just enjoying a floating savasana in the sunshine, you’ll find your rhythm out there.
So grab your board, take a deep breath, and go find your floating zen.
See you on the water!
